Encoded survey links allow you to pre-assign participants to a specific segment and its value, ensuring accurate tagging without participant input. This feature is best used when you are certain of a participant’s segment and want to prevent them from selecting the wrong segment themselves.
Why Use Encoded Links?
- Prevent errors: Assign participants to a segment automatically when you’re confident about their segment.
- Mix distribution: You can send encoded links to some participants while providing unencoded links to others.
Example: If you know certain participants are “Stakeholders”, you can use an encoded link to tag them automatically, while letting others choose their segment from the survey question.
How to Encode a Survey Link
- Navigate to the survey link settings.
- Choose a segment from the dropdown.
- Select a specific segment value (e.g., “Stakeholders”) to pre-assign it.
- Or, keep the default “All segments” to allow participants to choose their segment.
- Copy the encoded survey link and share it with the appropriate participants.
Best Practice
Use encoded links only when you’re certain of a participant’s segment. For other cases, unencoded links allow participants to select their segment during the survey. This flexible approach ensures your data stays accurate without overcomplicating your survey distribution.
