The Impacts report is a powerful tool that helps you compare idea rankings between two segments. By examining where segments agree and disagree, you can uncover opportunities, potential risks, and actionable insights to guide your decisions.
What Is the Impacts Report?
The Impacts report compares the pair scores of two selected segments and visualizes their priorities on a quadrant-based chart. It also provides a table with detailed data for download.
How to Use It
- Select two segments to compare using the Filter by dropdown.
- Review the chart to see where segment priorities intersect and diverge.
- Use the table for a detailed view of pair scores and to export data as a CSV.
Note: If a segment doesn’t have enough responses, the report will alert you. Ensure both segments have sufficient data for meaningful comparisons.
Reading the Chart
The chart compares pair scores for the two segments:
- X-axis: Segment 1 priorities.
- Y-axis: Segment 2 priorities.
- Points on the graph: Show the intersecting pair scores for each idea.
- Green lines: Represent the mean pair score for each segment. These lines divide the chart into four quadrants.
The Four Quadrants
Use the green mean lines as guides to organize ideas into the following quadrants:
Upper-Right Quadrant: Agreement on High Value. Both segments agree these ideas are more valuable than average.
- Example: If both customers and stakeholders value an idea highly, it’s likely to perform well in practice.
Lower-Left Quadrant: Agreement on Low Value. Both segments agree these ideas are less valuable than average.
- Example: Ideas in this quadrant are less likely to succeed because neither segment prioritizes them.
Upper-Left Quadrant: Disagreement – Segment 1 Values It More. Segment 1 values these ideas more than average, while Segment 2 values them less.
- Example: If stakeholders prioritize an idea but customers don’t, it might signal a perceived high ROI that won’t align with customer needs.
Lower-Right Quadrant: Disagreement – Segment 2 Values It More.Segment 2 values these ideas more than average, while Segment 1 values them less.
- Example: If customers prioritize an idea over stakeholders, it could represent an unseen opportunity to innovate or monetize.
How to Use the Impacts Report
Identify Opportunities
Focus on ideas in the upper-left and lower-right quadrants. These highlight potential gaps where one segment sees value that the other does not.
Focus on Agreement
Ideas in the upper-right quadrant are most likely to succeed—they are highly valued by both segments. Ideas in the lower-left quadrant may not be worth pursuing, as both segments deprioritize them.
Leverage the Table
Use the downloadable table to analyze the data further or share insights with your team.
Best Practices
Choose Segments Strategically: Compare segments that reflect distinct priorities, such as customers vs. stakeholders or students vs. faculty.
Start with Agreement: Prioritize ideas in the upper-right quadrant for initiatives with broad support.
Explore Disagreement: Use the upper-left and lower-right quadrants to identify innovative opportunities or risks to address.
Final Thought
The Impacts report is your tool for bridging priorities between segments. By identifying areas of agreement and disagreement, you can make data-driven decisions that align with your goals and maximize success.
