Adjusting Segment Power and Date Ranges

The Adjustments page gives you tools to fine-tune your survey results by:

  1. Adjusting segment power to emphasize specific participant groups.
  2. Setting a date range to analyze results over specific time periods.

These adjustments can help you gain more precise insights, especially when results need to reflect the priorities of key groups or trends over time.

Adjusting Segment Power

Segment power adjustments allow you to increase or decrease the voting power of certain participant groups (or “segment values”) within a segment.

Why Adjust Segment Power? Let’s say you’re running a survey with two segment values: “stakeholders” and “customers.” If stakeholder priorities are twice as important to your decision-making as customer priorities, you can adjust the weight of stakeholder votes to reflect that.

Keep in mind: Segment power adjustments only affect results for all segments. Results for individual segment values and the Impacts report are not affected. pairLab will notify you when a power adjustment is in effect on the results page.

Setting a Date Range

The Date Range Adjustment lets you view survey results between two specific dates. This is especially useful for surveys that run over long periods -- you can see how results change at different intervals.

Why Use a Date Range?

  • Monitor trends over time, such as changes in priorities after a new product launch or event.
  • Focus on a specific phase of your expairiment to understand short-term patterns.

Keep in mind: The date range adjustment affects all results. pairLab will clearly indicate when a date range is in effect.

Best Practices

  • Segment Power Adjustments: Use this feature thoughtfully. Overweighting a group can help prioritize key voices but may distort results if used unnecessarily.
  • Date Range Adjustments: Regularly check results over time to identify trends or changes in voting behavior. This is especially valuable for long-running surveys.

Final Thought

The Adjustments page is your control panel for refining results. Whether you need to emphasize specific participant groups or focus on a particular timeframe, these tools give you the flexibility to ensure your insights align with your goals.
